Description

It wasn't so long ago that Switzerland was a blank spot in the via ferrata Eldorado. For a long time, people were rather skeptical about the construction of via ferratas. However, with the inauguration of the "Tälli" in 1993, the first real via ferrata on the rugged southern precipices of the Gadmer Flue, the "ferrata virus" has also taken hold in Switzerland.

The majority of via ferratas in Switzerland largely follow Alpine mountain routes. They offer a successful combination of walking, climbing and panoramic enjoyment. The routes themselves are - compared to the via ferratas in France - not quite as well secured, so you can still enjoy being in contact with the rock.

The Rother via ferrata guide "Via ferratas Switzerland" describes all via ferratas in Switzerland as well as the most beautiful secured routes, including a 5-day tour. The routes are precisely described and provided with detailed maps. A precise difficulty rating makes it easier to make a quick selection, while clear tour information on starting points, altitude differences and walking times, requirements and support points help with planning and orientation.

The spectrum of routes described is extremely varied and ranges from easy to very difficult: from action-packed gorge routes (Gorge Alpine in Saas-Fee, Gorner Gorge near Zermatt) to panoramic routes up a three-thousand-metre peak (Jegisteig) and from high alpine (Salbit-Höhenweg) to sport-oriented (Fürenwand via ferrata) or even hair-raisingly athletic (Via ferrata San Salvatore). The Bergsee, Fruttli, Gemmiwand, Farinetta and Obere Bielenlücke via ferratas are brand new. The Bernese Oberland and Valais are the most heavily represented regions, but the Lucerne Alps have also developed into a via ferrata Mecca. For the fourth edition, "Klettersteige Schweiz" has been comprehensively updated and expanded.
